•Jazz music has developed for near a century. Now, it's a kind of art which is the most important in the world. There're many people who listen and perform jazz music in almost each corner of the world.

•Nowadays,jazz music has broken the limit of races and nations. So it has become a kind of music with a charateristic of internationality.

•Since 1993, there have been Beijing International Jazz Music Festival for eight times in Beijing. This made people become more and more familiar and fond of jazz music.

•Having integrated the opinions of all walks,we decided to hold Nanjing Jazz Music and World Music Festival to promote the multi-development of cultural activities in Nanjing,Jiangsu, to upgrade the taste of culture of the city and to broaden the external exchanges of culture in Jiangsu and Nanjing.

    Since the first Jazz Music Festival,Mr.Güsten was very enthusiastic about the the performances. But he never thought of any return from it. What he said is that "I only hope that more and more people may devote themselves to the popularization of jazz music". And he also looks forward to more and more large-scale corporations may invest for the Nanjing Jazz Music Festival to make this festival become the tradition which will be holden annually.He believes that the efforts he made won't be wasted as long as more and more people know and love jazz music.The music director,Mr. Dong Jinming also said that,"the reason why Nanjing Jazz Music Festival can be holden annually is that there're a lot of enthusiastic people such as Mr. Güsten who apply themselvers to the spread of jazz music.

Music Director

After his graduation from secondary school in 1980, he worked as an erhu teacher in “Nanjing Little Flower Art Ensemble” and Nanjing Elementary Art School. In the same year, he was invited to perform in Nagoya, Osaka, and other Japanese cities. In 1983, Dong Jinming enrolled at Nanjing Art Institute music department focusing on erhu as well as Chinese art and folk music, following which he won several prizes in the First Erhu Competition of Jiangsu province. Upon graduating in 1987, he has worked in the Jiangsu province Culture and Art Center as a music director and erhu-performance director. In 1993 he was admitted into the Chinese Musicians Association of Jiangsu province and was given the honor of “promising young generation erhu-performer.” In 1994, he became a member of the Chinese Society and Music Study Committee. In 1995, he was appointed as a member of the Evaluation Committee of Chinese Erhu Performing Arts.
Since 1985, Dong Jinming has taught erhu at Nanjing University to over 400 overseas students from more than fifteen countries.
In 1995 from October to December, he gave several solo concerts in Germany, Belgium, and other European countries with the hope of introducing Chinese music to Europe and its people.
In 1996 and 1997 the second performing tour followed to Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany with successful concerts in Hamburg, Passau, Amsterdam, and a Brussels television station.
Dong Jinming’s 1998 tour from October to December included approximately twenty performances with a world premiere in Bremen, where he played a special erhu composition (“Lotus”) by Professor Hans Otte, a pioneer of modern and improvised music.
He also performed with Europe’s best mandolin orchestra “the Strings” and performed a series of concerts with pianist Professor Dr. IIse Storb, “EAST MEET WEST” in the Mercator—Halle Duisburg and the “Museum of Oriental Art” in Cologne.
From 1998 he started take erhu try play jazz music with pianist Professor Dr. IIse Storb and get successful.
In September 2000 he performed as an erhu-soloist in the International Festival of Chinese Music & Art in Naming, and in October he made an extremely successful tour to Japan.
In February 2001, he performed as an erhu-soloist in Beijing for the Chinese Government.
Leipzig of Germany the “partner—town” of Nanjing, invited Dong Jinming for the “Nanjing Cultural Week” in June 2001 where he played as a soloist after three concerts with Dr. IIse Storb, followed by performances in Essen, Cologne and Krefeld.

He has since been appointed Music Director of the 2002 Nanjing International Jazz Music Festival. In 2000 he was admitted into the Chinese Musicians Association.
The Leipzig government invited Dong Jinming to return again for the “East Meets West” performance in June to July 2003, where he played as a post-concert soloist with Dr. IIse Storb and violinist Albrecht Maurer, followed by concerts in Essen, Cologne and Krefeld.
In 22nd and 23rd November.2003. Dong Jinming along with German Jazz violinist Albrecht Maurer and jazz pianist Simone Weissenfels gave concerts in Naming.
In January 2004, Asomaqi government of Japan invited Dong Jinming to give six concerts .
From June to July 2004, the Leipzig Government of Germany and Government of the Greece invited Dong Jinming to give ten concerts in Leipzig and Athens for the 2004 Olympic Games.
From 15th to 18th October .2004 he invited for take part the international Korean Music Festival. he play erhu with Asia spirit jazz band .
